Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (TLKM) said that the merger of the internet service business owned by BUMN is considered to have an impact on a wider range of services. In addition, it also creates greater business efficiency in the fixed broadband business by accelerating the development of a better network.
Telkom Indonesia’s Director of Finance and Risk Management Heri Supriadi said he considered the idea presented by the Ministry of SOEs regarding this business merger plan to be acceptable and would provide great efficiency in terms of company investment.
“If viewed more broadly, there is a possibility that the merger of investments in fixed broadband will accelerate broadband networks in Indonesia, meaning that capital can be consolidated for wider benefits,” said Heri in a virtual pubex live, Monday (6/9/2021).
However, Heri said that until now there has been no discussion carried out by the ministry together with other companies and SOEs that provide the same service. These companies include PT PLN (Persero), PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGAS) and PT Jasa Marga Tbk (JSMR).
He explained that currently Telkom with its Indihome fixed broadband business currently has an 80% market share throughout Indonesia. However, this has not yet reached the full potential of the existing market in Indonesia.
The need for fixed broadband is still considered very large considering the number of households in Indonesia reaches 65 million with the assumption that one-third of these households need this service. So that this consolidation is considered to be able to accelerate the penetration of services to the community.
“With this plan, we consider this a positive plan in order to accelerate broadband acceleration for all Indonesian people,” he said.
Previously, SOE Minister Erick Thohir gave a signal that there was a business consolidation plan in the internet service line owned by SOEs.
“Indeed, there are records of how some state-owned enterprises are developing their businesses outside of clustering,” said Erick in a Working Meeting with Commission V of the DPR, Monday (30/8/2021).
“Honestly, there are one or two SOEs that we are currently investigating, one of which is in our internal discussions because there is a rapim [rapat pimpinan] weekly, about ICON+ with Telkom [IndiHome]. So we do it,” said Erick.
Currently, several BUMNs that are ‘competitors’ for Telkom include PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk through its subsidiary PT Jasa Marga Related Business (JMRB) and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk or PGN which has an internet business under PT Telemedia Dinamika Sarana with the brand for its internet product is called Gasnet.
Then PT PLN (Persero) plunged into the internet business through its subsidiary PT Indonesia Comnets Plus (ICON+). Through its subsidiary, this stun SOE gave birth to a full fiber optic broadband internet service product under the name Iconnet which was launched on May 31, 2021. Previously the brand was known as Stroomnet.
