Erick Thohir Finds RI’s ‘Treasure’, What is it?

Jakarta

Indonesia is said to have an energy treasure of extraordinary value. Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir revealed that the results of the restructuring of PT Pertamina which he did a few days ago have shown results, one of which is the discovery of gas and oil sources.

“As we know that the transformation carried out by the Ministry of SOEs continues to occur. The results are visible. If we saw yesterday how Pertamina was after we did the consolidation, we could see that its sub-holdings were already producing well,” said Erick at the Joint Product Launching event. Food stalls broadcast live through the Ministry of SOE’s YouTube channel, quoted on Saturday (18/9/2021).

He said, one of the results is the discovery of a treasure trove of gas and oil sources that have been lacking. Then, he also conveyed several other benefits of subholding that had been collected.

“For example, what we have been lacking so far is the discovery of gas and oil sources after consolidation, we can find new 204 million barrels. And most importantly upstream (Subholding Upstream) is now profiting US $ 1 billion above the far target,” he said.

In addition, the performance of Subholding Refinery and Petrochemical also recorded a profit in the first half of US$ 322 million. At first, said Erick, this subholding was a burden, but then it made a profit.

“The petrochemicals that were previously a burden are now US$ 322 million in profit,” he said.

Furthermore, he assessed that progress has occurred in many other subholdings. He emphasized that SOEs do not recognize super holdings, but clustered holdings that require supply chain to occur.

“As I said earlier, PTPN has extraordinary efficiency and was initially opposed, but today it can prove that its refinery is Rp. 23 trillion, now it’s up 19%, the bottom line, which is predicted to lose Rp. 1.4 trillion, now gains Rp. 1.2 trillion,” he added.

“We must be able to balance the amount of domestic production, the amount of imports, because from the beginning I and the Trade Minister there was a new ecosystem. I am sure that the background of the Minister of Trade is not someone who likes imports, but the data must be equal,” he concluded.
