Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir openly expressed his disappointment with Thailand and Japan. Two things that became a source of disappointment were regarding the opening of tourism to investment placement.
For Thailand, Erick said he was disappointed because it was not counted as a country that was allowed to enter the country after Thailand reopened its tourism.
“I’m not anti-foreign, but earlier in the car I was a little annoyed, Thailand just announced 38 countries may enter the country, there is no Indonesia. If I see it, many countries that handle Covid are much worse than us, Malaysia and others, we no, what does that mean? They are not fair to us,” when closing the 2021 Autonomy Expo, quoted on Saturday (23/10/2021) yesterday.
He asserted, things like this will be a record for him to take policies in the future. Because, even though Indonesia and Thailand are neighbors, the business to business concept needs to be carefully considered.
In line with that, he also expressed his disappointment because Japan chose to invest in hybrid cars in Thailand, rather than Indonesia. Whereas so far Indonesia is the largest market for Japanese cars.
“So far they have boosted our car market, which is the largest in Asean, which has received huge investment from Japan for their hybrid cars. [Thailand]. It’s time for us to do the calculations with other countries,” he said.
To note, Thailand has just announced tourists from 46 countries to enter without quarantine starting November 1, 2021, provided that tourism actors have been vaccinated.
Some of the countries included are Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, China and the United States. However, Indonesia is not included in the list of 46 countries that are allowed to enter the country.
Initially, the Thai government last week announced to open its doors to tourists from 10 countries. However, the numbers have increased to revive the tourism sector and other sectors battered by the pandemic.
