Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Eric Thohir ensure the price of fuel oil (BBM) Pertamax will go up. The increase was triggered by soaring world crude oil prices which have penetrated US$ 100 per barrel.
He revealed that PT Pertamina’s RON 92 fuel did not receive a subsidy from the government. Meanwhile, Pertalite received the subsidy.
“The government has decided, Pertalite is a subsidy, Pertamax is not. So if Pertamax goes up, I apologize. Pertalite is a subsidy,” Erick said in a Public Lecture: Millennials and Digital Encourage National Economic Growth, quoted Wednesday (30/3).
In recent times, world crude oil has indeed increased sharply after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine since last Thursday (24/2). Therefore, Indonesian crude oil aka Indonesia crude price is also affected.
Previously, the Head of the Communications, Public Information Service, and Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Agung Pribadi said the upper limit for the selling price of RON 92 fuel at various Public Fuel Filling Stations (SPBU) as of March 2022 was Rp. 14,526. per liter.
In comparison, the price of Pertamax is relatively cheap compared to neighboring countries in Southeast Asia. According to Global Petrol Prices, non-subsidized fuel in several ASEAN countries is still more expensive.
Starting from Singapore at Rp. 30,800 per liter, Laos at Rp. 23,300 per liter, Thailand at Rp. 20,300 per liter, and Vietnam at Rp. 19,000 per liter.
Then, non-subsidized fuel in the Philippines is Rp. 18,900 per liter, while Cambodia and Myanmar are Rp. 16,600 per liter.
