Erick Receives Gegara Consumer Letter to Check Paying Link ATM Balance

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The Indonesian Consumer Community (KKI) sent a letter to the Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir. The letter contained an application for the state-owned bank to cancel the plan to charge balance checks and withdraw cash on ATM Link.

“After previously writing letters to BPKN RI, OJK and KPPU, the Indonesian Consumer Community sent a letter to the Minister of SOEs, Mr. Erick Thohir,” said KKI Chairman David Tobing, in an official statement, Thursday (27/5).

David reminded that at the beginning of its formation, this ATM combination aimed to provide efficiency, where ATM management is in one company switching by state-owned banks to save bank operational costs. Thus, it can reduce transaction costs for ATM users.

Therefore, he asked Erick to encourage Himbaras to cancel the plan for imposing tariffs for balance checks and cash withdrawals at ATM Links on June 1, 2021. He stated that many parties opposed the plan, not only the general public but also members of the BPK and DPR.

“Implementation of this tariff is an unpopular step when people are having a hard time dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

In fact, he suspects that there is a cartel practice because the four member banks of the State Bank Association (Himbara) have agreed to set the same price for cash withdrawals and balance checks. Therefore, KKI also makes reports to OJK, BPKN, and KPPU.

“If our report is proven and state-owned banks will be punished for carrying out a cartel, then this is very embarrassing, so it is appropriate for the Minister of BUMN to cancel it,” he said.

Previously, customers who wanted to make balance check transactions at ATM Link would be charged a fee of IDR 2,500 per transaction. Meanwhile, for cash withdrawals, IDR 5,000 is charged per transaction.

In fact, previously the cost of these two transactions was zero rupiah, aka free. This policy is implemented by state-owned banks, namely Bank Mandiri, BRI, BNI, and BTN starting June 1, 2021.

“In order to support the convenience of customers in transacting, every transaction to check balances and withdraw cash at Bank Himbara ATMs or ATMs with an ATM LINK display will be charged a fee,” wrote the official BNI website, as quoted CNNIndonesia.com.

However, the state-owned banks did not change the fees for balance transfer transactions. The fee is still IDR 4,000 per transaction.
