At the start of Chateau Meiland: En Route tells Erica Meiland shocking news: she has been diagnosed with a pre-cancerous stage. On the advice of her doctor, she is therefore having her uterus removed. It is not clear whether this procedure has already taken place, because the recordings were made a while ago.
Uterus
Erica discovered this when she had a smear test. “I faithfully participate in the population screening for cervical cancer every five years. I have done that my whole life. And the last time they found something. That was investigated and it turned out to be at least a pre-cancerous stage,” she says in the program.
She continues: “They still doubted whether those edges, those cutting surfaces, were already malignant. So I was advised very quickly to have the entire uterus removed. That will happen soon.”
Meiland family in shock
For the Meilandjes this is of course quite a blow. Martien indicates that the entire family was ‘very much in shock’. “You immediately think the worst”, says Martien. Daughter Maxime is of course shocked by the news, but she says that they are all very relieved that it was discovered in time.
In the episode, Erica also says that she can undergo surgery after the trip, and that she hopes for a good recovery. We also wish her good health and a speedy recovery!
About Chateau Meiland: En Route
The Meilandjes’ camper adventure for their new reality series certainly helps Erica to “take her mind off things”. In Chateau Meiland: En Route the family crosses Europe in a camper, with a specific mission. What does that consist of? Finding a new home, a new holiday home. The first stop is in the south. By now we know the family a little and we already know that we can expect quite a bit of chaos in the coming episodes.
Chateau Meiland: En Route can be seen every Monday at 8:30 PM on SBS6.
