Erica Meiland (58) gets into politics. In Noordwijk, the Dutch coastal municipality where the reality star has been living for several months, she will become the list pusher for the local Party for the Inhabitants.

The wife of television phenomenon Martien Meiland is in 30th place. Meiland recently came under heavy fire when she made some bold statements about foreigners in her biography, more specifically about themes such as headscarves and burqas. Among other things, she called burqa-wearing Muslim women “penguins”. After these statements, some companies stopped their commercial cooperation with the Meiland family.
“We are very much in favor of openness and transparency,” said the party leader. “She has given her idea openly. We are strongly against discrimination, both positive and negative. And that goes for Erica too.”
