The president of the Reconquest party Éric Zemmour was attacked and targeted by egg throwing, while he was traveling this Saturday, May 4 on a market in Ajaccio, in southern Corsica, BFMTV learned, confirming information of Morning run.
The former presidential candidate was greeted, according to the local newspaper, with cries of “Fascisti fora” (the fascists out, Editor’s note), “get out” or even “Corsica is not yours”, before receive eggs.
Contacted by BFMTV, his lawyer indicates that an analysis of the facts is underway. The Reconquest party assures that a complaint will be filed. The Ajaccio public prosecutor’s office has for its part opened a preliminary investigation into intentional violence committed against Eric Zemmour, according to a judicial source.
Those close to Eric Zemmour tell BFMTV that apart from this incident, the former journalist’s trip to Corsica “is going very well”.
A trip one month from the Europeans
According to the former presidential candidate’s entourage, the perpetrators of the egg throwing are “ultra-left activists”. According to Corse Matin, activists from the Communist Party and the CGT were present on site.
Those close to Eric Zemmour tell BFMTV they hope that the perpetrators of this incident will be “severely punished”.
“Last night in Lille, this morning in the Rhône, and just now in Corsica: same methods, same militias, same cries. This is the true face of the extreme left, of the small violent groups, who truly want us dead,” Eric Zemmour in turn accused this Saturday on his X account (formerly Twitter), early in the afternoon.
While, according to Corse Matin, Éric Zemmour hit the back of the head of the woman who threw eggs at him, the president of the far-right party spoke to BFMTV of a “defensive gesture”, ” a gesture of self-defense, and even survival.”
“If we defend ourselves, they reverse the roles and scream violence. We cannot live in a country where people only have the right to react once they are dead,” he also wrote on his X account.
