Eric Zemmour has emerged in the political landscape as the providential man expected by right-wing conservative circles disappointed as much by The Republicans as by the National Rally. Could he be this third man capable of finally putting France back on the rails of recovery?
Even if much of what he expresses is correct and well founded, should we not nevertheless at this time formulate reservations? I see at least three.
The first, on its ability to project itself into the future in a positive way by coming out of a negative, narrow and pessimistic analysis. Because his speech does not offer a way out and does not suggest the possibility and the modalities of an effective and lasting national recovery. The future may lift this mortgage: let’s wait for his proposals.
The second reservation concerns his ability to slip into the costume of a President of the French Republic, which we have seen for so many years how difficult it is to wear. The proof is not made. Be careful, therefore.
Hence my concern, that of seeing all these quality people from multiple horizons throwing in its wake so quickly and without assurances. For having been part of the “Fight for values” and of the Movement for France of Philippe de Villiers, I believe myself authorized to express this necessary call for caution and vigilance. A new failure would sign the end of all the hopes of the conservative movement which perhaps has in its ranks a man or a woman of state capable of taking up this challenge in the medium term …
The third reserve, recent, is caused by a news item, I mean the incident on the front page of Paris Match.
Of course, we are faced with a media initiative as miserable as it is filthy, invasive of privacy; it is useless to dwell on this diagnosis even if the question arises in my opinion as to whether a public man or a woman “still belong”. Columnist Éric Zemmour would have been able to denounce this American-style media system which has been invading us for many years and which has just experienced with this incident an additional edifying manifestation, but not really surprising. The trash cans and their users were at war … Our man and his advisor knew it. If they wanted to avoid this, they had to be on their guard; what have they not done!
Under these conditions, while he was surrounded by hundreds of people with cameras and cell phones, how could Eric Zemmour expose himself like this? If he did it out of carelessness, is it acceptable on the part of a contender for the government of France? No, he can’t be that naive.
This is why I think that Eric Zemmour necessarily provoked the media present on this beach, on a voluntary basis. How can it be otherwise? Would he submit to the dangerous game, denounced so many times, including by him, of the peopolization of political life, with the hope of using it for his own benefit?
We need a statesman or a statesman. We have criticized those who have governed us since 1974 enough for being normal and mediocre to remain on our guard after this regrettable media slippage. There is still a long way to go… We will see… But let us be vigilant while keeping the hope that French policy will finally come out of its republican “purr”!
