Although One does not yet want to comment on broadcast dates, the channel confirms that Eric Goens is currently working on a documentary about Sihame El Kaouakibi (35). The Open VLD politician ended up in a media storm last March when she was suspected of committing fraud with subsidy money. She is said to have used half a million euros in subsidy money (for, among other things, her dance project ‘Let’s Go Urban) and an approximately equal amount from private investors for her own interest.
Since then, El Kaouakibi has kept quiet in the media. She no longer represents Open VLD in the Flemish Parliament, she sits as an independent representative of the people. She has been spending several months at home on sick leave.
Open VLD chairman Egbert Lachaert calls it “incomprehensible” that the public broadcaster is going to make the documentary. “Incomprehensible that the public broadcaster spends tax money on someone who deceived everyone. Why spend money to offer a forum here?” Lachaert said in a comment on Twitter. “In this file, the court must above all be able to do its job asap, with the appropriate consequences,” said the Open VLD chairman.
