NEW YORK – New York City Mayor Eric Adams will go overseas on a pair of international visits later this week.
The mayor will leave on Wednesday for a first stop in Athens, Greece, where he is expected to attend the 2022 mayors’ summit against anti-Semitism.
Adams’ attendance at the conference comes on the heels of a possible foiled attack on a synagogue in Manhattan. Two men were arrested last weekend in Penn Station after making social media posts suggesting an attack on the city’s Jewish community.
The next day, the mayor travels to Qatar to meet with various government, security and economic development officials, his public schedule released on Friday said.
Doha, Qatar is currently hosting this year’s World Cup. The mayor’s office says the trip is meant to help New York learn more about the big event before hosting the games in 2026.
New York and New Jersey will host, among 16 cities, some of the upcoming games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
