Eredivisie still strives to complete the league at the end of June NOW

The Eredivisie CV still strives to let the league play out completely. Despite the consequences of the corona virus, CEO Mattijs Manders still sees plenty of opportunities.

On Tuesday, the Eredivisie and other European competitions were given more space because of the postponement of the European Championship to 2021. “I think everyone agrees that this is the only wise decision,” Manders told Wednesday FOX Sports.

“We still want to finish our league and everyone realized it was one mission impossible was to save that by the end of May. Everyone thinks it is a good, wise and sensible decision to already announce that the European Championship is being postponed. “

The final rounds of the Eredivisie and Keuken Kampioen Divisie were initially scheduled for early May. However, all clubs are not allowed to train until April 6.

‘Don’t take doomsday scenarios into account’

Manders is positive. “We do scenario planning, like many other companies. It means there are some variables that we don’t have an answer to, but we don’t take doomsday scenarios into account at all,” he says.

“Of course we will work out those scenarios, but it makes no sense at all to talk about them too much. At the moment, the aim is still that the Eredivisie will be played out on 30 June.”

The KNVB already decided on Tuesday to postpone the final of the TOTO KNVB Cup tournament of April 19 between Feyenoord and FC Utrecht. A new date is not yet known.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezes and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
