CV Eredivisie wants to allow the Clasico between Feyenoord and Ajax to go ahead without the police, director Jan de Jong told the Algemeen Dagblad. “A creative solution can be found for this,” says De Jong.
The police union already held several strikes during Eredivisie matches in August, which then went ahead. During the clash between Feyenoord and Ajax, the police want to stop their work again. The strike is about getting better early retirement for heavy professions, including the police.
The Eredivisie is all for letting the top game continue. “We are also pushing for this through lobbying,” says De Jong. “We try to make our impact a reality. That is of course done through diplomacy. There is usually an understanding for our situation.”

De Jong is disappointed with the situation. “The strike shows the importance of professional football as a means of pressure and at the same time we are completely on the sidelines, because early retirement has nothing to do with football itself. Their media has the most attention, and we have no influence on this. .”
The CV Eredivisie has provided several internal solutions to play the Classic without police. De Jong does not want to comment on this in detail. “I can’t say anything about it, but we hope our solution will be accepted.”
A club is usually only responsible for safety within the stadium. In addition, the mayor and the police are responsible. There could be a solution for Feyenoord to send stewards outside the stadium. A much broader step would be to play without an audience. De Jong does not want to comment.
At the moment, it seems that there is no question about canceling Feyenoord – Ajax. “We are listened to a lot. We are a discussion partner with real ideas and solutions.”
