The KNVB has found a new date for the Eredivisie match between FC Utrecht and AZ: the match has been moved to Sunday, December 27. Both teams were to open the new Eredivisie season on Saturday, September 12, but that game was canceled at the request of AZ.
Three days later, the Alkmaarders had to play in Ukraine again, for the Champions League game with Dinamo Kiev. Arne Slot’s team lost and is now entering the Europa League group stage: it will start on October 22.
The KNVB initially seemed to be planning to overtake FC Utrecht-AZ at the end of September, but has now opted for ‘Third Christmas Day’: then there will be a kick-off at 2.30 p.m. in De Galgenwaard. The football association had already designated December 27 as a catch-up date for canceled Eredivisie matches before the start of the competition.
FC Utrecht and AZ started the new Eredivisie season last weekend and both drew 1-1. The Domstedelingen did that on Friday at VVV-Venlo, AZ left points at home against PEC Zwolle one day later.
The match between @FC Utrecht in @AZAlkmaar is rescheduled for Sunday December 27, 2.30 pm: https://t.co/bQUWbZephF.
