Erdogan with an unexpected move. A meeting that could change the war in Gaza – 2024-04-20 13:53:36

A meeting that could change the war in the Middle East was made by the President of Turkey, Recep Erdogan. In Istanbul, a conversation began between him and the political leader of “Hamas” Ismail Haniya, Turkish media reported, quoted by Reuters.

Erdoğan earlier said succinctly that the talks would be in the spirit of the established agenda, while according to Hamas sources, the two would discuss the war in the Gaza Strip.

Turkey’s president is keen to engage in diplomatic efforts to end the Middle East conflict and sent Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Doha earlier this week after Qatar hinted it might reconsider its role as an active mediator between Israel and Hamas. Erdogan stressed that he will stand up to the Palestinian cause and be “the voice of the oppressed Palestinian people.”

The Israeli armed forces have eliminated 10 militants in the course of the operation around the refugee camp Nur Shams in the northern part of the occupied West Bank. Eight soldiers and one policeman were injured in the clashes. According to local residents, entry and exit from Nur Shams is prohibited, electricity has been cut and there is a food shortage. More than 480 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war, which followed Hamas attacks on Israeli territory last October.
