A new “Type 214” submarine was added to the arsenal of the Turkish Navy, built in Turkish shipyards with the know-how and cooperation of the German Thyssenkrupp. This is the submarine named “Pirireis”, the first vessel of the “Reis” class.
On this occasion, the Turkish president, Tayyip Erdogan, made new provocative statements, as reported by ERT, once again referring to the “Blue Homeland”.
“With the implementation of all these projects, our naval forces will acquire much superior capabilities and effectively defend our rights in the Blue Motherland,” Erdogan said.
“We know that in order to live peacefully on our lands, we must have an effective navy in our Blue Homeland. Since 2002, we have been trying to strengthen the Turkish Armed Forces in every field with the motto “Strong Turkey Strong Army”” stressed the Turkish president and added:
“We are a country surrounded on three sides by seas and the eyes of the whole world are on us. We are at the center of a geography that has been the scene of global conflicts for centuries.”
At the same ceremony, the flag was raised on the second submarine of the same class, named “Hızırreis”, which is entering the phase of sea trials, before it is also delivered to the Navy in 2025.
According to the original plan, the Turkish submarine program was to be completed in 2027, with the receipt of the sixth submarine, but it is estimated that it will be delayed until 2029.
