– Almost all Nordic countries are “terror nests”, says Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. He clarified to journalists that the mention also applies to Norway.
This is reported by the Reuters news agency.
On Wednesday, he said that almost all Nordic countries have become “nests of terror”, and repeated a threat to block Finland and Sweden’s bid for Nato membership if they do not keep terror-related promises made to Turkey’s capital, Ankara.
As a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, both Sweden and Finland applied to become members of NATO.
Just over a month after Sweden and Finland submitted their official applications for membership to NATO, turned Turkey on their previous veto against the memberships.
In addition, he added that other NATO-allied countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy and the United Kingdom allow groups that Turkey itself considers terrorist organizations to operate freely, according to a text shared by the presidency.
The statements come just a day after Erdogan met Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
