On May 14, presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Turkey. There are three candidates for the presidency: the current president, 69-year-old Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is the only candidate from the Republican Alliance, 74-year-old Kemal Kulçdaroglu, from the opposition People’s Alliance, and 55-year-old Sinan Ogan, from the Ata Alliance. The fourth candidate, the leader of the State party Muharrem Ince, withdrew his candidacy three days before the election.
Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Council (YSK) has promised to announce preliminary results overnight. The final results are due to be published on May 19 in the official gazette.
