President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promised to make Turkey one of the ten largest states in the world. Speaking in Ankara at the Party for Justice and Development (AK) event titled “The Century of Türkiye”, he hailed the country’s growth under his party’s rule over the past two decades. The news portal TRT News reported on 29 October.
Erdogan vowed to ensure Turkey’s further progress in politics, economics, technology, military and diplomacy.
“With the help of our foreign policy, we have raised Turkey’s reputation to the highest level,” said Erdogan, adding that his party wants to give a strong start to the new century of the republic.
At the event, Erdogan presented a series of programs, projects and goals ahead of next year’s presidential and general elections. He recalled that Turkey is preparing to celebrate its centenary in 2023.
“We share with all humanity the joy that the ‘Turkish century’ is also the name of a revolution that will bring democracy, development, peace and prosperity to all parts of the world, starting with our country and our region”, the Turkish leader said.
Listing his government’s many successes, Erdogan said:
“We provide our citizens with free and quality health care and education, we support the elderly who are forced to stay in their homes, and we offer our people the opportunities of developed countries with an understanding of the welfare state.”
In addition, Turkey has explored 540 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves in the Black Sea, Erdogan said, adding that “it will soon share the joy of new good news in the energy field with our people.”
It is noteworthy that in 1992, the then president of the country Turgut Ozal he declared that “the Turkish world will become the dominant factor in the Eurasian space from the Balkans to the Chinese wall”, calling the 21st century “the century of the Turks”.
Prime Minister Sultan Demirelspeaking of the “Turkish world from the Adriatic to the Great Wall of China”, he defined Turkey itself as “a cultural center and a historical magnet for the new sovereign states”.
