The Turkish side will not join the sanctions against Russia. This was stated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Turkish journalists on his return from the NATO summit, BNT reported.
Erdogan stressed that about half of Turkey’s gas consumption comes from Russia. He also reminded that Ankara is building the Akkuyu nuclear power plant together with Moscow.
The President also commented on the issue of the possible provision of S-400 systems to Ukraine. He said they were Turkish property and should ensure Turkey’s security.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he will hold separate talks with his Ukrainian and Russian counterparts in the coming days to discuss the outcome of the NATO emergency meeting. Since the beginning of the conflict, Ankara has been trying to mediate between Kyiv and Moscow.
The Turkish president also said he would offer his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to find a decent way out of Ukraine and end the war.
