Erdogan Gets ‘Steel Dome’ – Air Defense Plans – 2024-08-09 10:25:17

The construction of an integrated anti-aircraft defense system, which was called “Steel Dome” is planned by Turkey for the next period.

Yesterday, Tuesday 6/8, the Defense Industry Executive Committee met in Turkey under the chairmanship of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The “Steel Dome” program, the Communication Directorate of the Turkish presidency states in its announcement, is being developed with domestic resources and at the national level. It ensures that the multiple layers of air defense systems and all sensors and weapons will work together in a networked structure, create a common operational picture in the air, project it to the operations centers in real time and be available to the authorities for decision-making with the support of artificial intelligence.

The topics on the agenda

According to the announcement at the same meeting future activities related to the Turkish fighter KAAN program, the procurement of Bayraktar TB3 armed drones, Akinci, Aksungur and related subsystems, as well as the programs of unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned mini-boats and kamikaze boats for the Navy.

Also on the agenda of the Defense Industry Executive Committee was Turkey’s space program, the development of electronic warfare systems and electronic systems that show the operational situation on land, air and sea, the procurement of command control, communication and information management systems as well as defense systems against mini drones or naval vehicles.

Also discussed were the modernization of Turkish tanks and fighter aircraft with indigenous capabilities, the program for the development of domestic engine and power transmission systems, the procurement of armored wheeled vehicles, and the program for the purchase of small boats and coastal tugs.
