The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games 2024 in Parislast Friday, has offended not only Christians but all humanity, by including an LGBT show, the president of Türkiyethe Islamist Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“A sporting event that should unite humanity has unfortunately been inaugurated with an act that is inimical to human values,” Erdogan said at a meeting with his party in Ankara.

“The Olympics have become a tool of perversion that destroys human nature, subverts the family and threatens the security of future generations,” he added.

“What has been done in Paris is a move to drag human beings, the noblest of creation, lower than animals. The infamous scene in Paris offends not only the Catholic family, not only the Christian world, but us as well,” the president said.

“I will call the Pope as soon as I have the opportunity,” he added.

Erdogan noted that the French president, Emmanuel Macronhad invited him to attend the event and he had initially accepted, but changed his mind after a 13-year-old granddaughter of his called him to tell him that there would be an LGBT show.

Homosexuality has been legal in Turkey since 1858 and although there is a vibrant gay and lesbian community in major cities such as Istanbul y Ankarais reviled in the most conservative sectors of society and especially by the AKPErdogan’s Islamist party.

In the last general elections last year, several transgender candidates ran, but they did not win any seats, and Erdogan himself has invited the transgender singer and diva several times to official dinners during the holy month of Ramadan. Bulent Ersoy. EFE (I)
