Erdogan congratulates Netanyahu for winning the Israeli elections

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan write a letter a Benjamin Netanyato congratulate on the victory Israeli elections. Netanyahu returned to power after the far-right bloc won a majority of seats in the November 1 elections.

“I congratulate you on your victory in the general elections and believe that the new government will continue cooperation between countries in all fields, in a way that will bring peace and stability to our region,” Erdogan wrote, according to a statement by the Netanyahu’s office .referred AFPFriday (10/11/2022).

The two leaders have long ruled their respective Mediterranean countries during a turbulent period of bilateral relations, although the situation has changed in recent months.

Ankara did not comment on the letter, but Erdogan said in early November that Turkey would seek to pursue ties with Israel on the basis of respect for common interests, regardless of the election winner.

“I believe that not only Turkey and Israel, but the entire region will benefit from mutually beneficial diplomacy,” he continued in a televised interview.

Turkey has twice severed ties with Israel since 2010, most notably due to the killing of Turkish and Palestinian civilians in separate incidents.

Netanyahu, whose second term runs from 2009 to 2021, is expected to be formally charged with forming a new government on Sunday.
