Erdogan calls on Turks to boycott French products – Politics

Turkish President Regepi Taipa Erdogan on Monday called on the Turks to boycott French products.

“I appeal to my people. Don’t pay attention to French brands. Don’t buy them,” the president said.

Calls for a boycott of French products in the Muslim world spread rapidly on Sunday in response to French President Emanuel Macron’s support for cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.

Following the assassination of teacher Samuel Pati by an Islamic extremist for showing Muhammad’s cartoons to pupils, Macron stressed that France would “not give up our cartoons”.

On Friday, Muhammad’s cartoons were projected onto French government buildings, provoking another outrage in the Arab world.

Over the weekend, Erdogan said Macron should be tested for mental health in connection with his views on Islam and Muslims.

In a televised address today, Erdogan said Muslims in Europe were facing the same “lynching campaign” as Jews before World War II.

He accused some European leaders of promoting Islamophobia by calling them fascists.

“You are the fascists in the strictest sense, you are the strictest links in the Nazi chain,” Erdogan said.
