Erdogan announced readiness to cooperate with Taliban / GORDON

Erdogan said the military presence of Turkish troops at the Kabul airport would benefit the “new Afghan administration.”

“After the Taliban took control of the country, a new picture appeared in front of us. We are building our plans in accordance with these new realities emerging on the ground, and accordingly we continue our negotiations,” the Turkish President said.

He noted that Turkish state institutions have been maintaining contacts with the Taliban for some time and confirmed the opportunity to invite Taliban leaders to negotiations in Turkey to discuss the future of Afghanistan.

“We maintain this position today. We are ready for all types of cooperation for the peace of the Afghan people, the well-being of our Turkish relatives living in this country, and the protection of the interests of our country,” Erdogan added.

The Taliban Islamist movement was formed in 1994, from 1996 to 2001 it was in power in Afghanistan and controlled most of the country’s territory.

After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States and the Taliban’s refusal to extradite the leader of the al-Qaeda terrorist organization, Osama bin Laden, American troops were sent to Afghanistan. The Taliban government was overthrown, the Taliban began military operations against the government.

In February 2020, representatives of the United States and the Taliban signed a peace agreement, which provides for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan within 18 months after its signing.
