Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) has evacuated a building on campus because cracks have been discovered in the floors. It is not known how these cracks originated.
The Polak Building will remain closed until September 26 as a precaution, the university says. Education is provided in the building and there are also study places and shops. The shops are also closed now.
The building was also completed in October 2017. cleared. Then there was fear of collapse, because the building had the same floor construction as the parking garage at Eindhoven Airport, which was built a few months earlier had collapsed. The Polak Building went down in April 2018 open again, after steel piles were installed under the floors.
The multifunctional educational building was completed in September 2015. The lecture halls are on the first floor. A striking feature of the building are the stairs in the central part, which are reminiscent of the work of the artist Escher.
