NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – Against the background of ongoing political and economic risks, the US stock markets started the new week with losses. The Dow Jones Industrial was down 0.16 percent in early trading on Monday at 34,665.11 points. The broader S&P 500 was down 0.77 percent to 4453.72 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 fell 1.36 percent to 14,132.76 points.
After the US Federal Reserve signaled drastic interest rate hikes and a reduction in total assets last week in order to dampen price pressure, the challenges for the stock exchanges have increased again. “Today the mantra of many investors is ‘don’t fight the Fed when it fights inflation,'” commented Ed Yardeni of Yardeni Research./edh/he
