NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – The Nasdaq technology exchange continued its recovery on Monday. At the same time, the Wall Street index Dow Jones Industrial was rather directionless. The US Federal Reserve’s plan to raise interest rates in the near future remains in focus. At the same time, the surprisingly strong labor market report for January is causing nervousness about the extent and speed of possible interest rate hikes this year. Added to this are the high oil prices and the Ukraine conflict, in which the USA has taken a clear position.
The Dow index fell in early business by 0.02 percent to 35,082.41 points. The broader market S&P 500 index rose a modest 0.13 percent to 4506.35 points, while the tech-heavy select index Nasdaq 100 gained 0.65 percent to 14,789.52 points./ck/he
