Epstein’s ex-partner Maxwell wants a million-dollar bail out of custody

Ghislaine Maxwell (58) offered to deposit $ 28.5 million (about 23.5 million euros), reported the broadcaster ABC and other media, citing court documents published on Monday. Of the amount, 22.5 million should come from the joint assets of Maxwell and her husband, it said.

Maxwell’s family and friends would pay the rest of the amount. Judge Alison Nathan will decide on the application in the coming days. Nathan had already denied two similar requests from Maxwell in July and August – for release on bail and for transfer from solitary confinement.

Maxwell, 58, was arrested in the US state of New Hampshire in early July. She is charged with six charges, including seducing minors to engage in illegal sex acts and perjury. The charges relating to the years 1994 to 1997 carry maximum sentences of five to ten years in prison. However, Maxwell had denied aiding and abetting in court in mid-July and pleaded not guilty.

Her ex-partner Jeffrey Epstein allegedly abused dozens of minors and forced them into prostitution. In 2008, he avoided federal proceedings in this matter by entering into an agreement with the public prosecutor. Epstein then pleaded partly guilty and received a mild prison sentence. He was tried again in New York in 2019 and shortly thereafter committed suicide in a prison cell.
