Epstein settlement public: Giuffre received half a million, Prince Andrew not named | royals

entertainment">The settlement, the contents of which have been kept secret for more than twelve years, is being used as part of the lawsuit against Prince Andrew. Queen Elizabeth’s son was charged last year by Giuffre for sexual assault when the American was a minor.

entertainment">The document states, among other things, that Giuffre, who had accused Epstein of sexual abuse, agrees not to bring any cases against any other persons involved.

entertainment">Andrew and his lawyers had already expressed the suspicion that it was agreed at the time that Giuffre can no longer charge people with ties to the controversial, and now deceased, multimillionaire. Andrew’s lawyer is trying to convince the judge this week to drop the case. Reference will certainly be made to the deal from 2009, but it is still unclear to what extent it is useful. Much discussion is expected about the precise meaning of the terms in the settlement.

entertainment">Giuffre’s lawyer has already said that he believes the deal is irrelevant to Andrew’s trial. Another hearing will be held on Tuesday, which Andrew is not expected to follow live. The judge can immediately decide whether the case can continue, but such a decision can also take days.

entertainment">Giuffre, now 38, says she was “lent” by Epstein to Andrew as a teenager to be abused. She was alleged to have had sex with the Queen’s son on three occasions as a minor in 2001. That reportedly happened in London, New York and on Epstein’s private island. The prince has always contradicted that.

entertainment">According to the official statement, Epstein committed suicide in a New York prison in 2019.
