I expect a resolution to be adopted in the EP with a large majority for our acceptance into Schengen. There will hardly be unanimity, but our problem is the Council of the EU, more precisely in two member states – Austria and the Netherlands, where the upcoming elections in November may be a serious obstacle to our accession to Schengen. This is because far-right nationalist parties may gain more power.
This is what MEP Emil Radev from the EPP told “Nova News”.
According to him, the Spanish presidency is a great chance for approval for Schengen.
We need more means of monitoring, as well as thermal cameras, communication equipment and high-terrain vehicles everywhere. This will help us on the way to Schengen,” he commented.
