A gaming headset is one of the ‘essentials’ of a contemporary gamer, which is reflected in a market with a wide range of headphones for all budgets and of every level of quality.
The EPOS Sennheiser GSP 601 is the latest model in the Sennheiser gaming line, delivering a comfortable experience both in-game and head-on. The EPOS Sennheiser GSP 601 will cost you around 200 euros, but you get a premium-quality headset in return.
Comfortable and immersive
The headset comes in a simple package with two cables, one for Aux to Aux and another for separate microphone and 3.5mm audio input. That way you can easily change from PC to consoles with separate inputs. The cables have a fabric layer that makes them less likely to tangle, a nice detail that makes the overall experience with the headset more pleasant.
The GSP 601’s ear pads are thick and soft and mold to the shape of your head. On top of the headband there are sliders where the tightness is adjusted, in general I found the headset to be very comfortable on my head.
It is a large pair of headphones clearly intended for gaming, not in the least sense because the microphone is so prominent on the model. That’s fine by the way, this is a gaming headset and looks like it, it’s just less subtle if you want to use it for your daily commute.
That microphone has a lift to mute function, which means that your microphone is off when it is up, useful to not disturb your team and to improve efficient communication in an online game.
Ingenious
The ear cushions dampen the ambient noise a lot, which is nice in story games to fully immerse in the world and in an online game where your teammates must be heard clearly. The thickness of the cushions aids both comfort and sound attenuation and there is a volume control on the right ear cushion.
The sound quality of the EPOS Sennheiser GSP 601 is fantastic, you can distinguish the different sounds in a hectic shooter like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and in more tactical shooters like Rainbow Six: Siege the footsteps are almost deafening, just what you’re looking for in gaming headphones. Music also sounds as intended via the GSP 601.
All in all, the EPOS Sennheiser GSP 601 is a great headset that looks good, with a high gamer content, fantastic sound quality and a great microphone. The thick ear cushions and adjustable headband allow for long gaming sessions, and the built-in volume control and lift to mute functions come in handy when you need to switch quickly.
