EPOS has announced the GTW 270 Hybrid earplugs. According to the manufacturer, the earplugs are suitable for gamers, because they support aptX Low Latency. The earplugs come with a separate dongle for aptx LL.
The GTW 270 Hybrid can connect via Bluetooth 5.1 using the SBC codec, which makes it possible to both receive sound and transmit speech. However, the aptX Low Latency codec can also be used. As the name suggests, there is less delay in receiving the game’s sound wirelessly. The disadvantage is that the microphone of the GTW 270 Hybrid cannot be used in that mode.
To receive Low Latency sound, a special dongle must be used, which provides EPOS with the GTW 270 Hybrid. The dongle has a USB-C connection and thus fits directly into a Nintendo Switch and many mobile phones. EPOS also includes an adapter, which allows the dongle to fit into a USB-A port for PCs. The Epos Gaming Suite is available for Windows 10, with which 7.1 virtual surround sound becomes available. In addition, the player can then set different sound profiles.
The manufacturer also supplies the GTW 270 Hybrid in an aluminum box. The earplugs themselves should last for five hours; with the fully loaded case it can be stretched for up to twenty hours. The GTW 270 Hybrid has an IPx5 rating, which means it should withstand a walk in the rain. In addition to the GTW 270 Hybrid, EPOS also brings a GTW 270 to the market. That is the same set of earplugs, but comes without a dongle. Finally, the dongle itself is also available separately, such as the GSA 70. The GTW 270 Hybrid is available immediately and costs 199 euros. The GTW 270 and GSA 70 appear a little later, according to EPOS. The GTW 270 will cost 169 euros, while the dongle will be for sale for 40 euros.
