Épis d’Or Library: Embracing Nature in Saint-Paul-de-Varces.

Once a month, the library, in partnership with the association Saint-Paul-de-Varces Nature (SPV Nature) organizes a nature meeting. This Wednesday, the animation made young and old aware of the “Nature Garden”.

Two volunteers from the association, President Marc Escot and Marie-Paule De Thiersan (also President of the regional LPO), had installed educational panels in the garden of the library, taking advantage of the good weather and the numerous visits on Wednesdays from families and village elders. “The latter exchange a lot with the younger ones, pointed out Marie Paule. They explain to them that in the past, in their garden, we saw many more hedgehogs and birds than at present, which arouses the curiosity of the youngest”.

Enhance your garden

On the posters, you could think about how to enhance your own garden to encourage the presence of a great diversity of species, some of which can be valuable auxiliaries. “We must also favor a reasoned mowing, not cut everything, keep 1 m² of wild nature for pollinators, bees, butterflies”, explained Marc.

On each day of nature activities, the children from the Oxalis leisure center come to discover the exhibitions and ask a lot of questions, they are curious and talk to the volunteers. Regulars come back from one session to another and share their experience. The dialogue is rich, the information very useful. “In addition to the books and booklets presented during the events by SPV Nature, the library offers a collection of documentation on the gardens”, added Catherine Bathias, librarian.

A grain library is also available to residents.

The next nature meetings: April 12, seed bombs, May 10, swallows and swifts, and June 28, around the pond.
