JAKARTA – Epidemiologist from Australia’s Griffith University, Dicky Budiman reminded the government to prioritize safety aspects in the provision of the Covid-19 vaccine
Dicky explained, currently the vaccine made by Sinovac has not yet reported the results of his research in scientific journals. He said, there were only three vaccines that had reported phase III test results, namely the Modrena Therapeutics, Pfizer, and the University of Oxford and AstraZenecca vaccines.
“The three currently access data on research progress is open and can be seen transparently and this Sinovac data if not officially. Scientifically, but in phases I and II it has. Is there no progress in phase III,” he said. Dicky when talking with Okezone, Tuesday (22/9/2020).
Dicky was reluctant to comment further on the Sinovac vaccine because there was no scientific journal report. So far, he continued, he only knew about the development of the Sinovac vaccine through the media.
“Campaigning that he is there, yes. But that’s in a news paper but not in a scientific journal. So I can’t give further comments because the latest reference data is academic. Not from newspapers. Now they are just in the process,” he explained.
Dicky reminded that experts still question the safety aspect of the vaccine made in China. The reason is, Sinovac is claimed to have not met phase III testing standards.
“The security aspect is still in big question,” he said.
Dicky emphasized that the safety aspect of the Covid-19 vaccine must be prioritized. The reason is, this is to maintain public confidence about the national vaccination program going forward.
“And the history of vaccine research on average, there should be five phases. But three is fine, but there should be no neglect of safety,” he added.
He hopes that the government will not carry out an excessive policy for any reason about the Covid-19 vaccine program. He said it was because if the government made a wrong policy it would have a dangerous impact on the future of its people.
“Do not be accused of being like gibberish. That is very dangerous. It must be straightened out because this is very dangerous, involving the future of a person, children and then also this vaccination program when there is neglect of security for the sake of economic, political and other interests it can thwart all vaccine programs, “he continued.
“People will further collapse confidence from the vaccine program. Meanwhile, this world will face a pandemic era. Where there will be many vaccination programs to protect humans,” he said.
