Epidemiologists: Covid-19 can occur anywhere in Latvia; every second person does not know where he is infected – in Latvia

Epidemiologists: In Latvia, Covid-19 can occur anywhere, because the cause of infection is unknown to every second person.

SPKC representative Ilze Arāja, evaluating last week’s indicators in various aspects, still observes an increase in morbidity in the center, which shows that it is necessary to pay special attention to the prescribed precautions.

The SPKC also invites everyone to evaluate their daily habits, for example, to go to the store twice a week when preparing a shopping list. Address friends and meet on various Internet platforms, but make the best use of your family vacation by taking a walk in the fresh air.

It has already been reported that in the last week, 47% of people managed to identify the source of the infection, which in most cases was related to infection among family members. Workplaces and work groups follow, as long as the morbidity persists in medical institutions and educational institutions. Last week, 6% of cases became infected in places of entertainment, such as partying with friends or visiting places of entertainment.

Epidemiological indicators in Latvia have an increasing trend – the number of detected Covid-19 cases has increased by 25.2% compared to the previous week, the number of tests performed by 2.6%, which indicates a direct increase in the number of cases and is not related to an increase .

Assessing the number of inpatients, there is a tendency that on average 15% of all patients will need inpatient care after a week of illness. If 217 patients were hospitalized two weeks earlier, last week they were 281 patients, an increase of 30%.

However, comparing the 14-day cumulative rates per 100,000 population in different countries, the SPCC has concluded that the number of 229.7 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population in Latvia is below the European average of 602.9 cases. In Lithuania, this indicator has already reached 664.3.

In total, 22 European countries are experiencing an increase in morbidity, but eight are stabilizing or declining.
