The Federation of Medical Specialists is still only moderately impressed by the usefulness of FFP2 masks. The specialists believe that the masks that offer more protection do not have to be worn as standard. Not even now that Omikron is on the rise. on the website of the Federation of Medical Specialists says Andreas Voss:
Although Omicron is easier to transfer, there is still uncertainty about, for example, the infectious dose and the possibly larger share of aerosols in the transfer of this variant.

For that reason, the medical specialists are sticking to the guideline to only use FFP2 masks “for aerosol-forming actions”. Incomprehensible, writes field epidemiologist Amrish Baidjoe on Twitter. He believes that FFP2 masks should be used much more widely in healthcare.
This is beyond mindblowing. This makes me incredibly pissed and makes me honestly question their expertice and lack of accepting new evidence which has been around for well over 18 months. Groupthink amongst experts leads to severe risks during a pandemic.

According to research, Omikron can probably survive longer in aerosols. FFP2 masks, which are already fairly standard in public transport in Germany, offer much better protection against this than regular mouth caps. Especially in healthcare, where it is often impossible to keep sufficient distance, they can therefore be of great added value, according to experts.
A recent study found well-fitting FFP2 masks reduced the risk of infection with covid-19 to 0.1% https://t.co/pAwfth1yOV
