Although studies have shown that sunlight reduces the durability of Covid-19 on surfaces, it has a relatively small effect on the overall situation, the SPKC specialist noted. “Rather, the disease is limited not by the sun’s rays, but by social distancing. At present, there is no doubt that only human behavior could affect the spread of the virus,” the epidemiologist said.

However, the climate could have a different effect: in the autumn, people spend more time indoors, where the virus spreads better, Perevoshchikov said, adding that the spread of other infectious diseases increases in the autumn, partly due to this factor.

The incidence of Covid-19 in European countries has been reported to have risen by 10 to 30% in two weeks. Statistically, two out of three countries show an increase, and these increases have been observed in countries with a large population, explained the SPKC expert.

Meanwhile, another Covid-19 patient who died of the new coronavirus from a relative who visited abroad died in Latvia last day, according to information provided by the SPKC. The deceased was in the age group of 90 to 95 years.

As a result, a total of 32 people with Covid-19 died in Latvia.

Last day, 1473 Covid-19 tests were performed in the country and three new cases were registered. In one case, Covid-19 was discovered in a person after entering a country with a morbidity rate above 25, one patient returned from a country with a morbidity rate below 16, and one patient had contacted a person entering from a country where the incidence rate was below 16.

Covid-19 infections detected last day were registered in Jūrmala, as well as in Gulbene and Ādaži counties. Patients are in the age groups of ten to 19 years, 40 to 49 years and 50 to 59 years.

By now, all those infected in Ādaži municipality have recovered. In turn, Jūrmala is among the municipalities where the number of infected does not exceed five.

A total of 11 cases of the disease have been diagnosed in Gulbene municipality so far. In this municipality, the incidence of Covid-19 was first detected on July 22. Later, Normunds Audzišs (ZZS), the chairman of Gulbene County Council, issued an order stating that from July 29 to August 12, 56 municipal institutions were closed for face-to-face visits in the municipality due to Covid-19, except for kindergarten on-duty groups.
