Epic Games Updates Unreal Engine Billing Plan for Non-Game Content Development – US$1,850 Per Year

Epic Games updates its Unreal Engine game engineUse billing planif used for non-game content development and design, it will be billed at US$1,850 per person per year.

In the billing method originally proposed by Epic Games, general users and developers are allowed to freely download and use Unreal Engine to create content. Only when the game content is produced and sold to the outside world, and the revenue exceeds a certain amount, will a proportional profit sharing fee be charged. Therefore, developers will not be charged unless the commercial profit exceeds a certain level, and it will also allow more researchers to freely use Unreal Engine to build digital simulation environments.

However, as more and more film productions, virtual vision application development, or artificial intelligence training will use Unreal Engine to build digital environments, but Epic Games cannot collect any profits from it, so after updating the terms of use, it will Fees will be charged for using Unreal Engine to create non-game content that directly or indirectly generates profits, and will be billed at a price of US$1,850 per person per year.

The annual price of US$1,850 includes not only all resources used by Unreal Engine, but also Twinmotion real-time visualization tools and RealityCapture 3D modeling software. If developers need to purchase it separately, Twinmotion real-time visualization tools will be priced at US$445 per person per year, while RealityCapture 3D modeling software will be priced at US$1,250 per person per year.

As for non-profit use by individuals, research institutions, and community units, Unreal Engine will still be provided free of charge, and it also includes Twinmotion real-time visualization tools and RealityCapture 3D modeling software.

In addition, for the use case of game developers, if the commercial revenue generated by using Unreal Engine to create game content does not exceed US$1 million, Epic Games will still not charge developers. Only after the revenue exceeds US$1 million, will the revenue be charged? 5% of the total amount is charged as profit sharing fee.

Epic Games still hopes to let more people use its Unreal Engine game engine technical resources, but it does not want non-game developers to use loopholes in the terms to create application content to make money.
