Epic Games Launches iOS App Store in Europe, Challenging Apple’s Dominance with Lower Fees

Epic Games has officially launched an app store for iOS devices in Europe, Wired reports.

This is the first store to compete with Apple’s own App Store. The difference, however, is in the field. Epic Games is limited to offering its own games, including the popular Battle Royale game Fortnite.

The commission fee that Epic Games charges is 12 percent, which is clearly lower than the 30 percent at the App Store.

Epic Games’ action comes after a years-long dispute between the two sides over the costs Apple charges through its app store. The launch is the result of new EU regulations approved last year, which in Apple’s case means the company has to allow other app stores on European devices.
