On September 10, a lengthy court case between Epic Games and Apple presented its findings. This decision caused dissatisfaction on both sides because Fortnight’s developers were unable to prove that the US company was a monopoly, but found that an additional 30% margin on the Apple Store violated the rights of all developers. Now it looks like the game will be available again on iOS soon, but it’s unknown.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney posted a letter from Apple’s lawyers on his Twitter account. In particular, due to Epic’s suspicious behavior in the past, they refuse to return their developer account to the App Store. The letter also states that the technology company does not promise to reconsider the decision any time soon.
It’s true that this can be worked around – but not unless you’re a technician who knows what you’re doing. Tim Sweeney says it could take up to five years, which means Fortnight and other Epic Games games won’t show up on iOS smartphones until then. He accuses Apple of lying, saying it can return to Epic Games’ App Store if it agrees to follow the rules like other developers.
In short, no one has admitted their guilt and it looks like they can’t return to the Fortnight App Store. Apparently, Apple is trying to impose its own rules on Epic Games, and it looks like they will have to land sooner or later. Whichever page appears here, Fortnight players who are unable to download their favorite game from the App Store will be most affected here.
