Epic Games announced on Tuesday that it is acquiring the studio Harmonix. The studio is known for the music games Rock Band and Guitar Hero. The rhythmic games allow players to play familiar songs with special controllers in the form of instruments.
In a blog writing Harmonix that it will continue to develop games under the Epic Games banner. The developer plans to continue supporting Rock Band and Fuser. The announced DLC for Rock Band is coming as planned and events in Fuser will continue as well.
The studio will work for Epic Games on ‘musical journeys and gameplay’ for Fortnite. The Epic Games battle royale game has hosted live concerts and movie trailer premieres before. epic games writes that it wants to further develop the music experience in Fortnite and that Harmonix can play an important role in this.
Harmonix was founded in 1995 and has developed several games in recent years, with the music games Guitar Hero and Rock Band being the most famous. The studio was bought by Viacom in 2006, but became an independent studio again in 2010. Harmonix’s most recent title Fuser came out in 2020.
