Epic Games said on February 17, 2021 that Apple violates antitrust laws in the EUFiled a complaint with the European CommissionThatPresentationDid.
According to documents submitted to the European Commission, Apple claims to exclude competitors in app distribution and payment methods. It is said that profiting from such acts is the EU’s antitrust law.
The dispute between the two companies began when Epic Games filed a proceeding against Apple, which deleted the app as a “violation of the rules” for introducing its own payment system in “Fortnite” in August 2020. Epic Games has filed legal claims against Apple in the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
“Consumers have the right to install apps freely and developers have the right to compete in a fair market,” said Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games. Apple’s injustice is “at risk of mobile platforms.”
To date, Apple has not commented on this matter.
