Epic Games asks the court to make Fortnite games return to the App Store.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Fortnite game developer, Epic Game, again asked the court to stop Apple’s ‘revenge’ against them since the game was blocked from the App Store. Quoted from Reuters, Monday (7/9), Epic Games filed a preliminary order to the District Court in the Northern District of California, United States, so that their games can return to the App Store and their developer accounts are restored.
The developer argued that they were suffering irreversible losses because there was no preliminary injunction. Epic Games in the file accused Apple of having a monopoly because it explicitly banned competitors.
Apple some time ago turned off the account Epic Games in the App Store after the developer violates Apple’s terms of payment methods. Epic Games created a payment system that would go directly to them, instead of using Apple’s system, which was subject to a 30 percent commission.
IPhone users can no longer download Fortnite or other games made by Epic Games on the App Store. Even so, Apple says this policy does not affect developer accounts for the Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine is a software made by Epic Games that other developers use to support their games or applications.
Apple says it can add Fortnite to the App Store again if Epic Game removes the payment method they created themselves. Epic Games rejected Apple’s suggestion. Epic argues that obeying Apple means “colluding with Apple to perpetuate the monopoly on payments on iOS”.
