The story
Priest Vallon, the father of Amsterdam, is murdered in a bloody fight between two gangs by William Cutting, aka Bill the Butcher. Amsterdam sees it happening as a child and leaves the city. Years later, he returns to the Manhattan of two centuries ago with only one goal: to get revenge. To accomplish this, he infiltrates Bill’s anti-immigrant gang. Meanwhile, he meets Jenny, a beautiful and sneaky pickpocket, who makes Amsterdam’s plan more difficult to carry out.

Review Guide.tv:
although Gangs of New York certainly contains crime elements, this is above all a historical drama written by Scorsese. The acclaimed filmmaker was able to indulge in some fantastic sets and costumes, as well as some beautiful mass scenes in store for us. As a result, the characters get a bit snowed in at times, but luckily there is a phenomenal role from Daniel Day-Lewis to keep us on our toes – he really plays everyone off the screen. This film is also notable as Scorsese’s first collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio. However, we see many more big names passing by: in small roles we see Henry Thomas, Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson and Stephen Graham, among others.

Cast
In addition to Leonardo DiCaprio (Don’t Look Up) en Daniel Day-Lewis (Phantom Thread) are also Cameron Diaz (There’s Something About Mary), Jim Broadbent (Paddington 2) and John C. Reilly (Stan & Ollie) can be seen in Gangs of New York. This movie is directed by Martin Scorsese (The Irishman).
