EP adopts by a large majority a resolution in support of Ukraine – Politics – World – NOVA News

The European Parliament adopted by a large majority a resolution in support of Ukraine in the war launched by Russia, BTA reports. The document describes the events as an unprovoked and unjustified attack. It is noted that the planned deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus will pose an additional threat to European security.

Russia’s actions have long been planned and undermine security around the world. Moscow has deliberately sabotaged efforts to reach a diplomatic solution, only to gain time to prepare enough for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, MEPs said.

The EP unanimously supported Ukraine in the war with Russia

The EP strongly condemns Russia’s illegal actions against Ukraine, as well as the involvement of Belarus. The EP calls for an immediate cessation of Russian hostilities in Ukraine and for the unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders.

MEPs express united support for Kyiv and call for continued diplomatic efforts. The EP rejects Moscow’s unilateral recognition of the so-called republics in Donetsk and Luhansk.

The EP strongly rejects Russia’s threats with nuclear weapons, calls for the expansion of sanctions against Moscow, and for NATO and the EU to prepare for every opportunity.

The EP calls on EU countries to provide Ukraine with weapons. MEPs deeply regret that Serbia is not pursuing a European foreign policy, although it is negotiating EU accession.

The EP proposes that EU countries limit Russia’s diplomatic and consular presence. The UN Security Council has called for an investigation into the events in Ukraine.

676 MEPs took part in the vote on the resolution at today’s extraordinary sitting. Of these, 637 were in favor, 13 against and 26 abstained.
