The commissioners of the Environmental Guard were attacked on Saturday with the forks of locals from Sintești (Ilfov), announces the Minister of Environment, Tanczos Barna. The commissioners caught them burning toxic waste such as tires and electric cables.
When they wanted to stop them, the locals attacked the officers and the intervention of the special forces of the police (SAS) was needed. The outcome? Two people were detained by the police, according to the Minister of Environment.
“The attack took place when the GNM permanence teams, which patrol the area daily, caught several outbreaks in the field, where the perpetrators were burning electric cables, used tires and other types of waste, forming clouds of dense smoke. The intervention of three fire trucks was necessary to extinguish the fires. For such deeds, committed deliberately, there must be no clemency, and the detained persons risk, along with their accomplices, in addition to the fines received, to pay freely “, wrote Minister Tanczos Barna on Facebook.
The locals from Sintești are famous for the repeated burning of waste, an occupation known to the authorities for over a decade and which could not be stopped by any government. Due to the burning of waste, the whole area – including Bucharest – is constantly polluted.
