“Environmental catastrophe looms as ‘serious incident’ occurs in American state”

The New York Times quoted a spokesman for the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office as saying that a freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed in western Arizona on Wednesday night.

The New York Times reported that there were no reports yet of any hazardous material leak following the accident, which occurred in Mojave County, near the borders with California and Nevada.

Fox 10, affiliated with Fox News, reported that authorities had notified the US National Transportation Safety Board and BNSF Railroad of the accident, and they are currently investigating.

In February, a freight train derailment caused more than a million gallons of hazardous materials and pollutants to spill into the area around East Plastein, Ohio, prompting the state to file a lawsuit and the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate.
