Environmental alert declared again for this Wednesday – 2024-07-30 23:16:31

The poor air quality continues to relentlessly affect the Central Valley of the O’Higgins region, prompting the Presidential Delegation to declare a new environmental alert, which will take effect on Wednesday, July 31.

It should be noted that this environmental alert of the year is within the framework of the Critical Episode Management (GEC) 2024, and applies to the 17 communes that make up the Saturated Zone of the Atmospheric Decontamination Plan (PDA) for PM 2.5 in the central valley of O’Higgins: Rancagua, Graneros, Doñihue, El Olivar, Coltauco, Coinco, Quinta de Tilcoco, San Vicente, Placilla, Mostazal, Codegua, Machalí, Malloa, Rengo, Requínoa, San Fernando and Chimbarongo.

“We have instructed this measure to safeguard the health of the population, since the air quality reached high levels of air pollution in several communes in the saturated area of the region. In light of this, I reiterate the call to the community to respect the measures decreed in this episode, especially the prohibition of lighting heaters that use wood and wood derivatives,” said delegate Fabio López.

For her part, the Seremi of the Environment, Giovanna Amaya, explained that “we are experiencing a complex scenario regarding air quality, atmospheric pollution levels are high, which is not only evident through what our monitoring stations in the central valley show us, but even smoke can be seen in cities. We need the collaboration of people, since the ban on the use of firewood in the season must be respected, only in this way can we lower pollution levels.”

The Seremi de Salud O’Higgins has set up a reporting line so that people can inform the authorities in case of non-compliance with the regulations related to the lighting of wood heaters on days of environmental episodes. In such cases, you should call or write via WhatsApp to the number +56989036974.
