(CNN) Environmental activists stormed an international snooker championship in England, spraying powder paint and disrupting the game.
The competition was held at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield, England. During the match on the 17th, a 52-year-old man wearing a T-shirt from the environmental protection group Just Stop Oil (JSO), which advocates stopping the use of fossil fuels, climbed to his knees and dropped an orange in a bag. I threw out all the colored powder paint. The man was then detained by security and led out of the venue.
Footage from the scene also shows a 25-year-old female member who tried to interfere with the match, which was progressing on another platform, but was stopped by the referee and taken away.
It only happened for a few seconds, but it took time to clean up. The powdered table had to be replaced and the match was postponed to the 18th. The game on the other table resumed after a delay of about 40 minutes.
The JSO has released the names of two of its members and said its aim was to encourage British sports to join the anti-fossil fuel movement.
Local police said on Monday that the man and woman had been arrested on suspicion of vandalism.
Last year, members of the JSO caused a ruckus by pouring soup over Van Gogh’s masterpiece “Sunflowers” at the National Gallery in London.
Also, at the “Grand National” horse race held on the outskirts of Liverpool in the northwest of England on the 15th, an animal welfare organization broke through security and invaded the course, delaying the start and about 100 people being arrested.
